I got the book One Tin Bakes by Edd Kimber for Christmas, and I’m planning to slowly plug away at its recipes all year long, which is part of the reason I came up with What I Wore and What I Brought as a little series. This past weekend, I had a little brunch at my place with some close friends, and I made Espresso Cacao Nib Morning Buns. The video will take you along on my baking journey, from forgetting to soften the butter to getting timing mixed up to a very sleepy baker.
The buns were made with a brioche dough, which needed to sit overnight and then be rolled, folded, and chilled repeatedly the next day. I miscalculated how long the chilling part would be, so I was late getting the bake done when everyone came over. Thus, I regret to inform you there is no “What I Wore” section of the video. I wore a white t-shirt and sweats. There was zero time to try and be cute. My friends saw me for what I am! A girl who wears sweats as much as she can at home.
So, I thought I’d share a few outfits from this past week to fill the gap.
I really liked this outfit at first, and then as the day went on, I was less impressed with myself. I don’t know…maybe the shape feels a little dated? I do like the layering. Maybe different shoes? No tights? It’s too cold for no tights! And actually, I did wonder if it was a hairstyle thing—maybe I should have worn my hair up. Anyway, it doesn’t matter.
I felt pretty good in this outfit. I love these pants, and I fear that they’re feeling a little big these days. But oversized is in? I haven’t been able to hack the grunge look yet, but it’s a trend anyway. Might as well keep hacking away at my own personal style amidst the changing trendy landscape. I also need to stop being lazy with my tucking.
I got this 100% wool sweater off of Depop, and I really like it. It’s just a little itchy. This time I wore it with a tank underneath, but next time I might do a full shirt to offset the feel of the fabric. When I walked into work, my boss said, “That skirt is everything,” which was really nice. Here’s the thing about this skirt though: it’s beautiful and fun, and it rides up like crazy. All day I’m yanking it down. I wear it sparingly because of this, but it’s a memorable piece anyway so sparingly is probably the way to go. Last note—maybe different, lighter shoes next time?
Okay, hope you enjoy the video! I tried some new editing tricks this time. Still not totally perfect—however that would look—but I like experimenting with it! My question is: do you like the narration of the baking process? Or should I go rogue and do something completely different?
Covered in instant espresso powder,
Abi
