Also from Davis County, also living in the DMV, also Post-Mormon...smallest world! I miss the nostalgia too. At the risk of infantilizing those who still believe, I am hesitant to describe my current feelings as longing for a fantasy... but that IS how I feel. The nostalgia for a simpler life view, for the innocent belief that my community was wholly 'good,' for the acceptance and validation that saturated literally every aspect of my life...fashion, philosophy, sexuality, education, family.
Yes! I totally get that. Overall--and I think you'd agree with this--I would rather not be limited to one restrictive belief system for this little life I lead. But of course that built-in community, customs, shared language...there's a million reasons--good and nefarious--that people stay.
I’m firmly in the camp of “your writings deeply resonate with me despite being raised in a different set of circumstances.” And your journey likely deeply resonates with anyone who has at some point questioned the beliefs with which they were raised and then realized they didn’t match their own beliefs.

This is so important! I love how you are spreading understanding and awareness ❤️
Thank you! And there's still so much more to say!

Thank you! Yes, I think this type of experience is just simply human--mine is just a little easier to name in some ways.
