I'm just discovering your Mormon-related content, and I'm impressed with the clarity of your insight into the issues in the Mormon faith. As an ex-Mormon who's followed the Mormon Church's controversies closely over the years, I think you've nailed some of the most disturbing aspects of patriarchy and Mormon women's limited role and power. I've just finished writing my memoir, We Were Smiths, about leaving the Mormon faith as a related descendant of the Joseph Smith family (Samuel Smith is my great-great-grandfather), and the process was both triggering and cathartic. Thanks for sharing your insight and perspective.

Thank you! That's so great to hear from a fellow ex-member. I'm always conscious of the fact that Mormonism is not a monolith and there are so many experiences I can't represent...but of course, that doesn't mean mine isn't real. Your book sounds fascinating--please let me know when it's out! I'd love to read it!

Vanessa and I tried to watch but it wasn’t something I could get through - probably due to anesthesia from a procedure! We’ll try it again, for sure. It’s a situation I was able to see up close, albeit on the outside. I’ll give it another shot. Excellent article.

I can definitely see the show not being for everyone...it's loud, drama-filled, cringey. Don't force yourself if it's not something you like! Though of course I'd love to hear your thoughts if you do watch. :)

I think you're a little hard on the photographer who put you up on a pedestal. he simply doesn't understand how someone could do that. As a man I can understand what he's saying he just doesn't have it in him. I think people misunderstand that it has a lot more to do with him than it does to do with you. People always think that things that happen have to do with them ,but 90% of the time it has to do with the person that does it and nothing to do with them. Beyond the fact that the person doing it has a lot of problems and you happen to be in their life or adjacent to them or talking to them
